When I was Young
By Kathy Armijo

There was only today.
           When I was young.
To read a book or simply play,
Or stick out my tongue
Was enough to fill my day.
           When I was young.

Learning was a bummer.
           When I was young.
I’d rather be playing.  Life couldn’t be more “funner”.
           When I was young.

I could eat, drink and dance ‘til the wee hours of tomorrow.
            When I was young.
A catnap was enough to help me stay awake.
            When I was young.
Life was too short to take a  break.
            When I was young.

Tomorrow was a destiny filled with adventure.
            When I was young.
Sometimes I long for “when I was young,”
But mostly I’m glad – that I was young!
Especially, now that my strings are coming unstrung.

There is such a lovely energy in these lines... can't imagine the author "unstrung". Although some of our strings can be a burden, really.

Lively work Kathy!

Should that strings come totally undone I hope you will spread like a fog among the trees of my life, carrying within each tiny drop a kiss that was promised and never was...

LOL. Kathy, I kept reading this thinking had you showed it to me before? But when I hit the last line, I knew I had not read it. This is great. I agree with the super glue and duct tape. Gave me my smile. Thanks.

So easy to emphazize with this one dear Kathy, my strings are getting harder to keep in tune all the time but ahhhhh ... once they played some fine tunes indeed.

Age and youth, in the mind. Tell your mind positive thoughts and this will help bring light and youth back. A very poetic write.

But now in juxtapose most of these remembrances have different faces don't they? When I was young is when I made most of the mistakes that I learned from. I'd never want to go back, but I surely do miss the seemingly impervious bodies we were blessed with then.
Thanksgiving blessings to you and yours ...

Very good Kathy. When I was young it seems that more people cared about what happened to other people. When I was young there was more compassion and less greed. When I was young our government was so corrupt. Oh, I could go on and on. Sorry, has not been a good day. I just have to keep trusting the Lord. God bless you.

You gave this nostalgic poem some humor and that is good, because looking back, at times, can cause us pain . . . I loved this . . .

LOL, know how those strings get unstrung. Heck getting old. But dang, sure beats the alternative! Well done, Kathy.

I'm glad that I was once young and reckless, too, and these days, I keep plenty of duct tape and Super Glue around for all my unstrung strings. (Dog spit helps, too!)

Oh, yes, I'm glad I was young and have those wonderful memories -- but I'm glad I don't have to do it again.
