The probability of you winning the lottery is the same as you being struck three times on the same spot by lightening and living to tell about it...
This was inspired by a man I saw who spends every dollar of his hard earned money on lottery tickets, little does he know that success is a state of mind... no wonder alomst all who win the million dollar lottery end up broke in five years...
He looked at his wife
looked up and cursed God
then down as if to ask the 'lie'
he held in clenched fingers
which of the three was to blame?
So, oncemore, he decided to ignore the little voice
that said his luck may not be in the lottery afterall
He'll be back for another try
Tomorrow could be the day....
(Success is a planned event, there is no such thing as luck)
This poem hit hard Bernice. A favorite "vice" of my ex-husband was gambling. He even went so far as to break into my home and forge a check for $1000 after the divorce. He would have been horrified to know he would sink that low and would have never believed it when he started the beginning stages of obsessing about lottery tickets. Its a horrible disease and one that does kill everything around you including yourself. Well Done! Deborah
which brings to mind mathematics and statistics, and the power of random... random anything. Random searches are more likely to deter criminal behavior than any kind of screening. Random numbers are addictive... random thinking--like lines of poems I tuck away to compile later--turn powerful in little ditties like this one.

Love your by-line at the end especially! Yes, compulsive behaviour is an addiction, a sickness of the spirit most likely. The highs and lows of the predictable 24-hour pattern becomes almost a bodily function and response. In such cases, perhaps the only solution is to take them out of their known life environments and to place them somewhere safe where time and energies have to be applied to another form of survival... In any case, drastic measures to prevent total madness are almost certainly required. Compulsive behaviour such as gambling is probably worse than drink, perhaps. No easy answers to this one... and a problem that more are caught up in, either directly or indirectly. A good cameo, Bernice. TY Kate xx
My friend played the same numbers for 20+ years or so...one week he forgot to play & thougt "Oh well what the hello".....yep they called every single number that week...I still get goose bumps seeing all those knots on his head as he beat his head on the wall.....
Earning Money & Saving will by far be a better pay out & odds are always in your favor that way

Sad for those who really get hooked on it. It's anaddiction just like any drug. to play for fun one in awhile is one thing but to act as you describe the man did,is truly sad.Thanks for sharing , i agree with you about luck. ET
Got that right, Bernice - the only ones getting rich are those in charge of the lottery - but dangitall, I've been indirectly struck by lightning - twice - 'bout time I win the lottery! LOL (Don't play - don't have the money, so why waste it?) No such thing as luck, only God's blessings. :) Rich beyond measure with that - excellent!

It is sad when smart people gamble and cannot know when to stop...whether it be on lotto tickets, casino's, poker or bingo if it goes beyond a nights entertainment once a month then there is a problem.
I agree with the message in terms of success being a planned event and not having to do anything with luck.Success comes when we work hard to achieve any goal or dream in your life.There's nothing wrong with playing the lottery but people shouldn't keep throwing away money where that money can go to paying rent,paying mortgage or saving money to keep for yourself for a later use.Great poem and message

I feel sorry and rage with people who are stupid enough to throw their money away . . . I play the lottery, the state and Powerball . . . I spend four dollar a week on them . . . If I win I win, if I don't I can still pay the rent . . .
I would rather put two bucks on a long shot than play the lottery. I'd have a better chance of winning and the odds are not millions to one against you.
