i drink from the river and shake my coat
cocking my head i hear a rustle
but it is only the fox, playing nearby
maybe as bird i can hover the woods
seeking the heat that’s retreated too deep
i land on a branch and whistle awhile
when your hungry enough you’ll come around
i return to paws
leap down from the branch
pad off to hollow
taking my nap
letting the sunshine warm my fur
purring soft and growl as i sleep
dreaming of lands under the water
shimmering with crystals and prisms of light
bursting of fire bending timelines
riding the back of a great dragon cat
whiskers twitching something stirs in the rocks
i find myself pacing holding my breath
don’t want to scare it or chase it away
so i lay my head down and rest on my paws
sniffing at the breeze and licking my chops
