reluctant at first, but i go anyway
inside the door a party rages
so many strangers, drinking glasses of Champaign

i find a chair by the stereo past a few casual smiles
i sip from my glass and let the effervescence settle
i find myself staring into the glass
mesmerized by the bubbles

aware the cds are playing at random
a little of this and a little of that
kinda like life - you take what you get

i nearly laugh out loud as “it’s a dead man’s party”
comes streaming out
they’re out there dancing “who could ask for more”
and i’m humming to the chorus

i mingle a bit and refill my glass
and Alicia comes on - you know that one
that really sinks in deep

and i never loved someone - the way that i love you”

oh yeah, here is that part that makes me want to cry

i’m sinking to the floor and she keeps singing on

and darling, i know...i am just a fool

a hand reaches out and asks me to dance
he holds me close and Celine sings on
“a new day has come”
i nestle my cheek upon his chest
i hear his words
“hush now, i see the light in your eyes”
and he spins me soft and back to embrace
while i sing to him
“i can’t believe, I’ve been touched by an angel – with love”

and i was glad to be there.......Happy New Year
