An Unfinished Blanket

Time to move on

Cleaning out my closet, I found a basket of yarn, it had

Been there for years; though I couldn’t remember why.

I used to love to knit but for a reason forgotten, don’t know

Why I quit.

And that’s when it came to light.  For in my basket lay an

Unfinished blanket of blue, pink and white.  The hurt came

Roaring back into what happened that awful night.  The blanket
was for a dear little babe, my sister’s daughter, her life.

She came into this world with her sweet blue eyes, a little cherub,
an angel in a bassinet; that gave everyone a smile.

But the smile was to be a short lived one, for after three weeks,

In the middle of the night, she died.

My sister wailed for her child, there was nothing that could be said

Just let her grieve, the process would take many days, she than cried

Angrily, how can my baby be dead?!

That was many years ago, but I couldn’t finish the blanket when
all I did was cry. So I put my knitting in a basket, and hid it in a

corner far away.  It stayed there for the longest time, I don’t know

why I found it that day.

I thought about hiding it again, but that would be a foolish thing. A new

babe was soon to be born, it had to be complete.

So when my granddaughter made her entrance into this world,

She clutched a blanket in her tiny hands.  A blanket knit by day

and night...one of blue and pink and white.

Mary -- it made me feel like crying ... and then so happy to hear of a new baby -- a new life -- grasping that blanket of blue and pink and white. You have a wonderful gift .... I am so glad you are sharing it with the world...and that I am part of your world. Susan
