the eyes of Congress

Around the table they sit, an amusing
sight, eight hot air balloons wearing
brown or black ties
They speak with no mouths, just
expel hot air and waste time. But
how sad for them, they have no eyes.
They speak of a great land; and
a bad economy just doesn’t exist.
America is the greatest land, we
wouldn’t put up with this!
Outside on the sidewalk sits
a family of three. How they
ended up with no home, is
hard to believe.

He had a great job, head of a company
but for some unknown reason, his job
was sent overseas.

He looks up at the window where the
hot air balloons walk around, do they
know he’s even there, they haven’t
made a sound.
Ah yes, they couldn’t care, because
their kind are just balloons with
hot air.

Mary, Your review of one of my poems brought me to your site. I've only read about 6 or 7, but I especially liked this one. Well, I don't like the situation, but I love the way you've captured it with such breavity. I'll definately be reading more of your work. Thank You, Dick

Excellent social commentary. We just CANNOT afford to bury our heads in the sand. We were able to get out of The Great Depression by war and dropping a bomb on Japan. We no longer have this option, as the economy has become so tangled with other countries. This is one of my favorites by you, Mary.
