Put on a Happy Face

I was so angry I almost threw something. Decided that would be useless, so wrote a poem to vent. Hope you don't mind.

I’ve told him time and time again when frustrated he becomes.  My friend, be happy where you are, after all the economy isn’t good, so we can learn to hold our tongues,  do our work, knowing we’ve done what we could.

What a fool I am to say such things!  Listening to the “Man” rant and rave as only he could do.  Why didn’t you tell me one of our men wasn’t in the right place!  When you know something is going on, you say it to my face!”

I didn’t know what he meant, but thought for a while.  He was blaming
me for something that wasn’t even my fault!  Well that’s par for the
course, I should have known, it’s his way after all.   A deed I am accused of I have to take the fall.

And when I’m hurt or angry or sad, “I don’t care what you feel.  Greet people with a smile.   When people come in this office, you are the
first one they see, so hide your feelings for a while.  No matter what is wrong, no one cares anyway, so always put a happy face on.

Let’s see, don’t show emotion,  take blame for what is not yours.  Must I be so fake?  So dollars I can make?  I remember what I told my friend and tried to grit my teeth.  But the enamel is wearing thin, from this false face that I wear.  Just remember, you have a job, be happy where you are.

But is it right to be miserable for money in the bank?  Some would say, yes it is, be thankful you have food to eat.

So I try and try, along with my friend to be happy where we are, but when I can work no more for all the stress I take, when life passes me by, and my whole life revolves around a job I hate,  do I still have to put on a happy face?

EXCELLENT! IT IS GOOD THAT YOU VENTED AND STAYED...'CAUSE YOU NEVER 'LEAVE' UNLESS YOU'RE SURE YOU GOT SOMEWHERE ELSE TO GO. SO...I BET BY NOW YOU'RE GLAD THAT YOU FOLLOWED THE ADVICE YOU HAVE GIVEN TO OTHERS. IT IS NOT EASY TO DO, BUT HOLDING YOUR TEMPER AND PUTTING ON A HAPPY FACE, IF DONE OFTEN ENOUGH, 'GROWS' ON YOU. TEMPERENCE IS A FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT AND A SMILE WHEN YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE ONE IS CALLED, JOY - ANOTHER FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT. HANG IN THERE; YOU CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST THAT STRENGTHENS YOU. THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS & FAITH, JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

Good vent. I do try to put on that face, but not for me or for the ones who hurt me but for the innocent ones who cross my path with the crosses they all must be bearing. My smile is for them so they can go on a little easier than before we met. Hugs times 3, J'nia

Wow -- did you ever say it well. That's my motto lately too -- Put on a happy face and try not to wear down those chompers either. I think we've all been in your shoes either professionally or personally and frankly I don't know the answer either. Good that you vented -- hope it helped some. Susan

I don't like taking the blame for someone elses failures. I have found that I have the ability to answer back without a person realizing that I am stepping on their toes. Works for me.

Know the feeling Mary, same thing I go through with my boss, for years I've been kissing his azz, I think finally I've gotten use to it. I told him I wasn't going anywhere and he can't fire me so we're stuck with each other. I'm in with the upper echelon and he hates that I'm a black man so well liked. Anyway I treat him kind and with respect, I don't do mean for mean, take care hugs

We have to do the best we can as long as we need and wake up each day, looking in the mirror saying, No one can mess with my day unless I let them. I usually say you are absolutly right and smile in a sarcastic voice. Live life to the fullest Mary and know inside you are right.

I am just going to comment on your well crafted poem. It was excellent. I will not comment on the subject because I do not walk in your shoes.

GOD BLESS YOU

Search hard for a new job which is what most would advise and when found Quit. But circumstances at times make this almost impossible.

you should put this into a short story, to expand on your emotions, to explore more. poetry-wise, this could count as prose-poetry, but only because of its form, yet there are no other signs of poetry here, for there's no metaphor, no construction of any sort, no progression or conflict; yet well wrought confessionalism, clearness and no restrictions on, or interconnections between, different parts of the text. it makes good grounds for a lyrical short story.

keeping your emotions locked up is the worst solution - this one is the best beast to choose, i believe, as well. yet, taking control of what's written through process of creation, may be the best thing of all. i think nothing is ever finished; we can only believe it is.

thank you!
