Poetry is the only 'facebook' for me as it opens up the truth in one's heart and though the readers may not meet the writer they still seem to connect through words in a very special way and and that is really nice and your words,Mary,are inspiring and I thank you sincerely for them.

That is so true. I have had the same thing happen to me. I was rather shy in high school also , but a few freindships have remained over the years and we still correspond. We change with age , but those that were true freinds , still remain. There are six which I knew as a young girl that I still keep in touch with.....M

Mary...that is very true...one can never have too many friends...but you must ask the question...Are they true friends or just acquaintances? What are their motives? What are yours? In this day and age we must be careful on these social networking pages who we befriend and it is too easy to click add a friend. Great write.

Good for you. I actually have made one or two good friends as well (out of the thousand) from my friends in facebook. I think if you're there long enough and are willing to make new friends, you can actually find some new friends around your neighbourhood. I doubt my high school friends will even recognize me if they see me in facebook...lol!! It's been so long ago. :o)

Mary,
I well understand the frustration you express and have mixed feelings about Facebook and the other social networking sites as they don't seem to have permanence and are as much distractions as anything else; then again, they are quick 'n' easy access to others.

I thought the same when I had friends from elementary ask to be a friend. Facebook is great because now I know how my old friends are doing and catching up! Old friends, new friends, they should never come to an end. Unless they are mean! Love, and peace always! ~Chessly

Don't place any trust in a pen pal as it can come back and haunt you but it is nice to have poet friends comment on your poetry but they come and go over time.

I do not trust facebook, Mary. I post there to as you know. But I think your friends here at the den are more trustworthy. And they are nicer people. JMHO.

Yes, I believe we are never too old to make new friends but we should always approach strangers whether in person or on line with caution until we know them better.
