This is a quick response to Deb's challenge. After reading all of the wonderful posts, I wanted to get in on the fun.
Perfect plans and butterflies, shortness of breath
and starry-eyed dizzy feelings of the heart fall short
when compared to the stumbling truth of reality
Romance is rare, though widely vended in
Byron and Shelly and Poe and more
they advertise with pride
still no sale
My well rehearsed lines never equal the beauty
of intention or the promises penned by a master
syllables blacken the white screen
as if trying to kiss its form
Still, I am reading your poetry

hmmm...i did comment...but somehow it didn't post...darn it!
What i had said in a nutshell was this...
I think this is an amazing piece of writing and it spoke to the hopeless romantic in me...the one i have tried to kill off time and time again...because all of those fairy tale illusions and dreams i dream never do measure up to reality...
but still, the words of romance are so captivating...can't help but be enchanted by it all
Plans are never perfect. But butterflies are beautiful, just as you are my dear.

Jesus said "Love one another." To give this love Lori ... we pay the price for it inside our hearts. And it will repay us a hundred fold.
So I love you and the ideas you so aptly express in this poem. It is uplifting and comes from your heart. You have made a good down payment on paradise. And it does exist Lori, it does exist. Hugs dear friend. Bill

sometimes the beauty is in the imperfection...sometimes the butterflies dance, outshines the beauty of it's wings...excellent poem...thanx for sharing....peace Abel
"It's quiet nights, pillow-fights and your soft laugh..." Lori, this is just beautiful and has the bittersweetness and sense of longing of some of the old Beach Boys tunes - like "Disney Girls", I think I'm struggling to remember lines of above. Light, bright and gentle all at the same time. I loved the progression of this, leaving me wondering in which direction it would go - like floating organza! Wonderful response - Deb's must be bowled over by the excellence of what his "gauntlet" has produced! Kate xx
