You bare the scars of self-destruction
upon your wrists so pale and fine
They once ran free with blood as crimson
as passionate roses upon the vine
Sweet memories of tomorrow
still play with yesterday
They Dance beneath the silver moon
Their intentions never stray...
You look and long for the one you love
Your heart forever aches
You know he’d come
to your deliverance
if he only knew
about this place...
People come and people go
but the faces never change
the Doctors all wear fashion coats
and treat you just the same
More Xanax for the nervousness
some Restoril for sleep
more Depakote and Seroquel
so the visions all will cease
The voices speak so loudly
“kill yourself” they say
instead you wait so patiently
He may return today....
Your lover may return today....
return today...
return today...
As each visitor makes their way
you expect to see his face
the disappointment never troubles you
You know he’ll take you from this place
but you are lost in a land of dreams
Your hidden fantasy
You set and wait
like an abandoned bride
Who's love has gone to sea...
Whose love has gone to sea...
gone to sea...
You sit and wait
like a forsaken bride
Who's love has gone to sea...

Love has the power to destroy and yet..it also can overcome and sustain us even in our longest voyages ultimately becoming our salvation. You have transformed and manifested this love into greater works
Lori,
What can I say....
Other then your poetry truly speaks to me!!!! You have a gift through your words, of showing the world what it is like from the inside!!!!! Don't ever stop writing!!!!
Beautiful poem, Lori. Dreamy and with a touch of realism. I've always liked poets who write beautiful lyric poems, mixed with realism--Giacomo Leopardi, Rubén Darío (his later poems are very powerful), Heinrich Heine. And, of course, e.e. cummings, known for his lyric verse and biting satire.
Married ten years, and more in love than ever, Robert and Marcie have everything to live for. But a terrible secret is breaking Robert's heart: he knows that Marcie is about to die...
Just as life during the pandemic was color-coded with different hues representing different levels of danger, life in its aftermath has become shaded in similar ways. As a self-styled “Seeker of Beauty with Beauty,” (borrowing from a quote by W.E.B.
