Answering the Call

For my brother-in-law, Ron, who has spent the last year battling brain cancer. This morning, March 6, 2008, he answered the angels' call...

At first glance, I turn against it…
            --rejecting the bright light--
The pull to stay is too appealing-
            my family’s call too real

Sunlight plays upon the shadows
--causing me to lose my grip
But persistent hearing of angels’ calling
            makes me look again

In cautious steps I move forward
            --moving toward the light
With curiosity I travel
            pulled onward by the glow

Moving toward the light
            --veil thinning; spirits beckoning
Shrouds of darkness
            falling from my eyes

Traveling toward the light
            --eyes wide open
Drinking in the luminous glow;
            feeling its embrace

Reaching for, and seeking brilliance
            --basking in its shine
Running now, in hope and brightness
            --running to my home…

I offer you and your family my most sincere sympathy. This is a stirring piece of poetry and tugs at this heart quite heavily. One can feel the pull toward the light and the human struggle to fight going forth, and then the resignation of heart, mind, and soul to seek eternal light. Beautifully done, Elizabeth.

The struggle ... to stay here or go to the Light ... difficult. Your heart and faith pour out through your words.
My most sincere and heartfelt sympathy to you and Ron's family. May God's love help all of you through this journey.

God bless you. Kathy

Firstly, I am so sorry for your devastating loss, Chryssa. The denial of the death of someone so cherished and close must be intense. But I am staggered by your ability to pen such beauty and hope in the narrated voice of the one who is answering the call. That is truly "letting go". I am in awe. Bless you. From personal experience of "near death", you have penned this with amazing lumination. As the body weakens and grows frail, it is my personal experience that the spirit life becomes more enhanced and "real"... the shift in transition is just how you describe. What a fantastic picture to hold onto. What faith shines within this. Thank you, and may many in similar situations be strengthened, comforted and blessed by your words. Kate xx

Life's experiences need words to accompany them and sometimes words help us heal.
I had never thought of the experience of light making one feel caught between two worlds, hesitating and then inevitably walking towards the brightness.

You capture well what must be the feeling as one moves from this reality to the next. I too enjoyed your last two lines.

The angels sing rejoicing but human hearts are saddened. My sincere sympathy, dear. My only brother, Mike, passed suddenly May 25, 2007 of a sudden, massive, fatal heart attack.

May God comfort you and those who will miss him.

The pen of the poet...cries in Faith!
. . . it brings hope to the tears that fall, watching the quill raise them back on high to make stars out of them in the heavens!

Bless you, Cryssa...I am so sorry to hear about your brother-in-law. . .
My prayers are with you and yours...
Love and Peace~

Oh, Cryssa, this is tender, touching, filled with light. At times like these, we often feel the pull of heaven in our own souls as our loved ones draw near to that time of "going home."

Connie

Sadness and pain still grip ones heart reading this.
Magical penn, yet your pain and angst of everyone close, must be bloody bottom drawer.
However, such faith will see all through for good or ill.
With dad it is touch and go, and the prayers really do carry one in a God like cocoon. Prayers come with this note and will continue.

Knowing that you care will make Ron better in accepting the angel's call, then again, he is one of the lucky ones that can tell his Lord of being ready.
