Why?

For all those waiting...

When we adopted our children from Haiti 6-9 years ago, we thought the process (at 4-12 months) was incredibly long. The months of waiting were painful on our hearts...and so difficult for the children to understand. (Actually, difficult for us to understand as well...) But now, I watch in horrific empathy as many of my friends near their 2nd and 3rd years of trying to get their children home--children they know and love. My heart hurts for them, and especially for the children...who will always be a part of my heart. This is for them...

“Why?”

Love from a distance doesn’t make sense

when my arms are empty

and you’re there alone.

I can’t keep from asking, “Why?”

Surely there is a plan in this

but it doesn’t seem to make any sense

why God would want it this way--

With my arms empty and you there alone?

Now, some people say that you’re not really mine,

so my heart shouldn’t hurt

and my eyes shouldn’t cry.

Why can’t they see you’re a part of my soul?

From the very first time that I saw your image

you entered my heart--

became one with my soul.

I knew you were meant to be mine.

Much time has passed while I’ve waited for you,

and the more time that passes

the more I ask, “Why?”

And while I am asking, I pray for you, too.

I pray that your heart will be ever protected.

I pray you’ll be healthy--

Be loved and adored.

I pray that you won’t give up hope.

I pray for a miracle everyday,

though your arms are empty

and I’m here alone…

that someday we won’t be alone

A beautiful tribute for all adoptive parents and their children.
I hope that by the time you read this, your arms and hearts are full of the children of your dreams. God be with you always as you take on such a responsibility and act of love. Susan

Beautiful, Cryssa. A heart and love such as yours is a gift beyond compare. It seems that this inordinate time of waiting just grows the feelings more strongly and tightens the love-bonds before they have even been forged in the flesh, somehow. It is hard for an adult to endure such lengthy procedures, but to a little one for whom time hangs heavy and passes soooooooooo slowly, it must seem interminable. Your mother's longing is very evident and heart-tugging in these poignant lines. Bless you and your little ones always. Prayer is a powerful agent when activated by such faith and desire. Love, Kate xx

Cryssa, what a beautiful expression of a mother's heart. God bless you and your children. I pray for your friends to get through all the red tape quickly now and hold their children in their arms.

Dear Cryssa, It is a beautiful poem and it reminds me of a song which says, "Tell me why we cannot heal the illness of love" But be sure that the kids are protected even if they seem to suffer. Their detiny includes their Guardian Angel. Love Emile

Empty arms, absurd, isn't it, for a mother?
Adopted or not, children never belong to us anyway,
but they are part of our lives.

We can never know the why here can we. So unfair and uncompassionate to wait so long. Thank you. Blessings, J'nia

If ever anyone can answer the "why" question...they will be famous.

I have no answers: seems if you have money or are famous, there is no red tape. And the children suffer, as do those mommies and daddies who want them. Painful question you ask, Cryssa, that must be addressed. Well done.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

There are so many "Why's?" to this crazy life we live... seems like the only thing that goes fast is the way the politicians and bankers and CEO's seem to spend our hard earned money!!!! When it comes to children...well...they must unfortunately stand in line and wait for a loving parent...shame on those who control this injustice... thanks Cryssa for reminding us... and God bless you! hugs, lindalaw
