Facts of Life
One day as my friend and I sat having our tea,
The kids arrived from school excited as could be.
We soon found out what the excitement meant,
They were studying the facts of life, they were all so intent.
There were still some things they didn't understand,
"Will you tell us more", was how it began?
I looked at my friend, embarrassed as heck,
I told her to tell them, 'Cause I was a wreck!
She cleared her throat, and then began; the kids were all ears,
When they heard about woman and man.
She told them quite clearly and very precise,
I put my two cents in, once or twice.
When she told them about the place called the womb,
I almost got up and left the room.
But it had to be told, and she told it so well,
If they all understood it, we couldn't tell.
So I began asking my oldest son, if he understood.
He said, "Yea Mom, my head isn't wood."
I ask my friend’s son, as I asked before,
He said yes and went for the door.
My daughter also said that she caught on.
There was only one left, it was my littlest son.
I asked him softly, and felt such doom.
"Sure Mom," he replied, “I came from a womb,
Just like my bed-womb!”
Written for my youngest son, Tom a precious son.
