Teenager Awakens!
You sacrifice so your children can have, and fulfill all their needs.
You teach them about love, respect and plant many seeds.
You sit up all night when they are sick and pray they’ll be alright.
You never think twice about it, losing sleep the entire night.
You bandage all their boo boos and kiss them with tenderness.
You expect this of yourself and will accept nothing less.
You hold them when they’re tired and stroke their little heads.
You read to them wonderful stories before you tuck them into beds.
How much you love these children, they’re everything to you.
You don’t mind the sacrifices; to you they seem quite few.
Then one day a teenager awakens and looks at you like you have two heads.
You can see nothing of the child you raised or the ones you tucked in bed.
They look at you with such confusion, having no idea what you’ve said.
They watch TV & lay around all day like their behinds are made of lead.
You close your eyes and shake your head & hope the moments pass.
Just like Joseph’s famine, for seven years those teenage years will last.
