“No Mom, Not My Bangs”
My hair was so thick as a child, that it had to be thinned.
My Mother would take me in the backyard & then she’d begin.
She didn’t have a thinning shears so she used dull shears.
She’d scrape it down my hair shaft until I was in tears.
The neighbors used to get out their lawn chairs just to see.
My Mother cutting, thinning and really scaring me.
For I would scream like crazy because it hurt so much.
They got so much enjoyment out of seeing Mom’s rough touch.
The thinning was the most painful but not the thing I’d dread.
It was when she cut my bangs and always what she said.
She’d start to cut my bangs saying “opps” a lot.
By the time she was finished, not one bang had I got.
The bangs were little stubbles they stood up in the air,
All the neighbors laughed, some would only stare.
This was their monthly entertainment, totally at my expense.
I didn’t mind so much, ‘cause back then I had no sense.

My mom only cut my hair once...after I got married...and she did it just the way you described, down to the dull scissors! My sister later tried to fix it and asked who had cut my hair. Before I could answer she told me to NEVER get my hair done at that place again... hee, hee...
But... as a child it was my dad who gave the monthly haircuts. And he had this uncanny knack of always cutting our ultra straight hair in a short page-boy cut the night before school pictures. Sigh... I thought I would NEVER live those days down! And how I dreaded those hair cutting nights!
I feel your pain, anew...
Cryssa :~)
But, remembering my own painful childhood, I will hate every second of it, even today. (sometime mothers can do the most idiotic thing with a portion of good will)
Betcha you didn't that to one of your own children.
