Out of the Mouth of Babes
We were two years apart and different as night and day
But everyone said we looked alike, we’d say “NO WAY!”
I didn’t mind it too much back then, but he’d blow his top,
He didn’t look like a girl at all & told them bluntly to stop,
Even when I went to school, teachers knew who I was.
They’d take one look at me and created such a buzz.
“Not another Johnson,” would be their snidely retort,
I’d try to take it good naturedly and tried to be a good sport.
To make it worse when Mom ironed our clothes
She’d put patchouli oil on the board.
So now not only did we look alike,
But also smelled in accord.
All through our school days and beyond them too.
People would remark we looked alike, through and through.
As we grew older we got used to this bind,
We just figured all them were out of their minds.
We never saw the resemblance at all,
Not since we’ve grown or when we were small.
But while I was tucking my son into bed.
He said to me, “Mom you’d look like Uncle Gary
If you’d shave your head.”

But now I can see the many resemblances and I am pleased to look like my parents.
