Sometimes when we gather for celebrations the little ones are totally forgotten or sadly ignored. Please remember them during this Thanksgiving celebration.
PASS THE BUTTER!
On Thanksgiving everyone gathered for a true family meal.
There was joy and love in their hearts for all others to feel.
Little ones, big ones all fighting for a seat so they could eat.
All sitting around the food table waiting for the festive treat.
Saying a prayer of thanks & thanking God for their food.
Then all talking at the same time, which was extremely rude.
When a little voice was heard above all others in the room.
It stopped everyone in their tracks, like a sonic boom.
“PASS THE BUTTER,” was yelled in a piercing loud scream.
All eyes on Billy, as if he were the oddest thing they’d ever seen.
“Billy,” yelled his father, you go directly to your room.”
“You get no dinner for being rude,” & the room filled with gloom.
He gave Little Billy a stern lecture before Billy disappeared.
Then Billy’s Grandpa stood up and said,
“There’s something I want you all to hear.”
He played a tape he brought for this special day.
A tiny voice was heard through all the loud voices;
what a sad story Bonnie -- children are the golden people of life -- poor Billy, wrongly accused, admonished and banished for having his little voice fall on deaf ears --peace and love to you -- JMW

Poor Billy. I hope the little ones are not ignored. My one year old won't let me forget him, he'll just take what he wants out of my plate if don't have any on his.
This makes a good point and I have another to share. When we do our holiday dinners we have our whole family and often friends here which have at times numbered up to twenty people including kids. It is often a struggle with seating and tables and someone once suggested that we set up a separate table for the children so the adults could dine in peace...my answer to them...
"It is the children that I am the most thankful for..."
Wow, I'm amazed you could get the little one's to sit still. In my family they are usually running around playing chase. I will need to pay attention the next time. ~ Sara
So funny...and haven't we had this happen to us too? Of course... Gib used to tell me about his family company visitors for the big dinner...and the Turkey plate would be passed around....and two of the cousins would say, "I want the big piece!" and then again, and again...and finally.... one cousin would take his fork and the other would take his fork...and they would each JAB SIMULTANEOUSLY...AT THE BIG PIECE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and then they too would get punished...sent to the other room....and then everyone would laugh...and save the two big drumsticks ....for the two cousins....who were then allowed back to sit and eat THE BIG PIECE!!!

You are a treasure Bonnie! We need these reminders,for grown-ups, forget what it's like to be childrem,and too many tend to igmore them altogether. A sad fact! Great poem! I'm sure you made it better for some children,after the elders read this;-)
Yes we do get caught up in what we are saying and ignoring the little ones who just want to eat. So in your exuberance on Thanksgiving remember those little guys and feed them first.

Oh so cute this writing. It seems his tiny voice could not be heard as all the adults rudely talked at once. Unjust punishment for that baby! Yeah Grandpa!!!
