Carnivals in Heaven

Life whispered it was through one quiet night
and it passed swiftly from my sight.
Past the wrought iron posts of graveyard's keep
and past the silent creatures of the deep.

Time held its breath as though to cry
while searching for a believable alibi
of why Life decided that it must simply go
and leave us here to run this traveling show.

I'll lift the awning and turn on the lights
when there falls that quiet of all nights
and light the way for you to forever fly
on the night that your life wanes and dies.

You call us beasts and thieves and worse...
You damn our souls, you call us cursed...
You claim you know our likes "real well"
and rant on how we'll end up in Hell.

But when the child in your arms goes frail
and to the Lord, peacefully sails...
What would Heaven be like for them to live
if the carousel wasn't allowed to enter in?

The Alpine Slide drops from cloud to cloud.
The bumper cars make that thunderous sound.
We deliver the large prizes each time they play
and there'll never end the warm light of day.

Yes, there'll be carnies in Heaven for you to see.
Do not cringe, for Judgement, we did receive.
And God, Himself, deemed us as we always should
though you may hate us...our hearts are still good.
