How will I know

Please tell me what I am to you
If it’s my hair, it will someday fall out
It’s already turning gray
Please don’t tell me its my hair
Is it my face?
My face will wrinkle and fall
My nose will get big and hooked
And my chin will become chins
Don’t let it be my face
My body? God, tell me I’m not just a body
That would hurt worst of all
Am I words, words? Written on a web site
No not that, I erase them all the time
A photo maybe, I have many
I plaster them everywhere
The men’s room? Yes I admit I put it there
One day when no one was looking
Why?
To prove I am I guess
How else can I be sure I exist?
What am I, please tell me
Because sometimes I’m not sure I know
If I can’t define myself by what I say
How I look or how I feel
By what measure will I know
When I no longer exist
When I’m no longer here
How will I know????

When I'm having an insecure day, it doesn't sneak up on me with little cat feet, it jumps, screeching, right into my face with claws and big jagged fangs. One of those days! But I know it passes, thank God

Oh my, that "defining" ourselves by what we look like, what we do--not always a pleasant consideration. Well-written with that unexpected dash of humor in the mix!

Good points you brought up. I hope it's the inner-self always...

Do What Matters Most by William Cottringer

This book summarizes life's ten toughest tests with ten passwords each to pass these tests. The current overload, speed of change and chaos are all summarized well enough to get to the Land of Simple on the other side quicker than usual.
