This is no longer autobiographical, but some things you never forget
I stay up and walk the floor
Promising myself it’s the last time
A man who doesn’t come home
Isn’t worth the time spent mourning
But old habits die hard and your are one
Of my oldest habits, we started so young
I was easy for you to convince that I was
Wrong expecting so much from you
You said I needed to learn that a man
Had to relax, after working all day, it was wrong
To expect you to come home on time
To not have a few drinks, to occasionally
Come home smelling of cheap perfume
It didn’t mean anything you swore
I was the one you love, the one you came home to
And I believed it until I didn’t any more
Haven’t for a while but like I said, old habits
Die hard, and you are one of my oldest
So I walk the floor and wait, not really caring
Whether you come thru the door or not
But not sure what else I’m supposed to do
You trained me well, those many years ago
And old habits just die so damned hard
