We all must learn to be happy with who we are and rise above wherever we are!

Do I have to you to be me?

I am black and will stay free,

and learn to be all that I can be!

My hair is kinky soft as lambs wool,

skin is brown and lips are full,

forehead high it communes with the sky.

I thank you Creator for being nigh.

Ebony skin strong sturdy like an oak tree,

I accept the fact that there is beauty in me!

My people are many colors,

our hearts were pure as gold,

but  scattered displaced persons,

polluted roots took a stronghold.

and the Lord still win battles to save souls!

We cry tears sweat brown, black, and tan,

and lobor in American the new homeland.

Our paths are dark obscure and gray,

the light though dim still shows the way.

All this pandemonium stifle the view,

I am happy being me what about you?

Do I have to be you to be me?

I love who I am and yet to be!

You set standard and we know that's true ,

real success eludes me until I be like you!

You change everything but the melon in my skin,

which keeps me black evokes praise deep within!

I simmer like charcoal burst into fire,

freedom in America is what black folks desire!

We are enslaved world wide untill all people are free,

of war, hatred, oppression, and poverty.

A fine poem of self affirmation, all the colors God made are beautiful and we should all desire freedom not only for ourselves but for everyone. A true pleasure to read.

Michael,
Just be yourself, the man God made you to be and you can't go wrong. God lives within your heart causing your beauty to shine through in every aspect of your life, especially your poetry, my friend.

Blessings & Peace,
~Linda
