It could've been the tomb,
when I came out my mother's womb,
but thank God I am here!
Death was lingering,
but instead a boy child,
with nothing to fear,
alleluia my God was near!
Birthdays came and went,
like the North and South winds.
I turned 1, 2, 3, 4, 5,
and grew like a whirlwind,
and finally became ten.
Mom watched over me like a kioness,
I was truly one of he cubs,
nourished with warm oatmeal,
beans and greens toast milk, and cheese,
part of the breakfast scene!
And now where has the time flown,
friends most people I knew dead and gone!
God's love and grace I am 77,
earth is still a joy,
waiting to fly to heaven!
I DIDN'T KNOW, OF COURSE, THAT OUR BIRTHDAYS WERE THAT CLOSE, MICHAEL. GIVING GOD ALL THE PRAISE AND GLORY...I REACHED 77 ON NOVEMBER 19TH. HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY AND MAY YOU SEE MANY, MANY MORE, INDEED! THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...HIS+INSPIRATIONS
Congratulations on making it so far and still able to write poems of your experience! I am told that half of my high school classmates are gone. I expected yours are too. But I wouldn't be waiting around for that inevitable. Now is the time for you to get more active than ever using your wisdom from your age to help others like you always have done, but even more so.
