It's been years since I've seen you
So much time alone
I've had to really toughen up
Since I've been gone
Runnin' away was my only option
Against your cruel hand
It's something I had to do, Mama
I was driven to take a stand
*********************************
I don't know why I came here, Mama
Guess I wanted to see
If you had changed at all
If somehow you needed me
The bottles on the table
The beer cans tossed on the floor
Mama, how can you live this way
I just don't know you anymore
**********************************
Your eyes are so empty, Mama
It's hard to comprehend
The rage that was inside you
The way you were back then
Remember you used to hit me, Mama
You just didn't care
To talk back or defend myself
You know I didn't dare
**********************************
I guess I'll be goin', Mama
There's nothing for me here
You have your alcohol to console you
Your bottle to hold near
I'll put my number by the phone
If you ever need a son
As I slam out the door, Mama
I wonder which of us won
it shameful how alcohol can disrupt relationships ...

Linda, an extremely heartfelt composition, my friend. Only you have the unique brilliance and capability to reach this far into one’s soul, and yet, still allow one to walk away with their head held high. Fabulous write. Thanks for sharing it. Take care and be well.
You've explained very well a son's lost love from his Mom
happy to read you Linda

Sad poem. Sad premise. When someone is not a good person it is not always clear why. But in the case of most of us, the cause is painfully clear. Usually it is self-lothing, or self-importance. And sometimes it can be both of the extremes at once.
Linda,
You captured vividly the pain and suffering of being the child of an alcoholic. Bitterness combined with a craving for lost love.
Fantastic write my friend.
