How Do I Say Goodbye...

This is written in tribute for my ex mother in law Catherine Lynch. She is a dear soul who is in a nursing home. The doctors say they have done all they can do. I wish when she was living I had done more for her. I just hope she knows I love her.

I remember you standing in the kitchen
With your apron tied to your waist
Making the best homemade biscuits
I was fortunate enough to taste
I remember you cleaning and scrubbing
Your home was your domain
I can see you working in your flowers
Putting them out in the rain
For many years you worked hard
I've seen your laugh, I've seen you cry
I wish you could tell me now
....How do I say goodbye

Every morning you read your Bible
I've heard you when you pray
I've always felt God was with you
Guiding your steps along the way
You treated me just like a daughter
Especially when my Mom died
Telling me everything would be allright
Holding me while I cried
I've known you since I was seventeen
And angel who could not fly
I wish you could tell me now
....How do I say goodbye

The many cups of coffee I shared
Sitting across the table from you
You taught me the love of God
By the thing's you'd say and do
You are not only my X mother-in-law
But my best friend, don't you see
I'm sorry it took me so long to realize
How much you mean to me
Soon you will go to your new home
The angels will carry you in the sky
I wish you could tell me now
....How do I say goodbye

Your face on crisp white pillows
It just doesn't seem real
Your handworking hands now resting
How sad it makes me feel
I know the angels are near you
They whisper in your ear
They are singing beautiful melodies
Only you can hear
You have always been a saint in my eyes
On a pedestal way up high
I wish you could tell me now
....How do I say goodbye

Perhaps it should not be goodbye, Linda, but until next time... in some other place... and surely always in your heart.

This is wonderful. Sad and touching and vivid. . .
have to say it again. Wonderful! Angels who drop
down to help make the difference between life
and death. They will live forever in our hearts,
minds, and souls. . .and those, no doubt, of
countless others. Sorry for your loss. . .and
glad for your gain. Phyllis <3

Linda I agree with everyone else, this is beautiful and compassionate. I think you and Catherine were both lucky to have known each other. And it sounds like you might have gotten some of your sweetness and angelic ways from her. She will be in my prayers.

lovely tribute to a lovely woman obviously. one of the real horrors of divorce is the people in the family that we love and that we don't want to divorce ourselves from but you seem to have kept this one.

Another compassionate write from you, Linda. A wonderful tribute you a lady you love. Lettign go is hard I know but when we know that they are going home where they really belong, it will be easy. Also remember, soon we will all meet in that one place where no one will know grief.

A truly heartfelt tribute to her, Linda, and I'm sure she knows how very much you care. My ex-mother-in-law was also a truly fine woman, and I got along with her marvelously, and when she passed, I missed her very much - and I still do.

Dear Linda, my heart and sympathy are with you. Often times our inlaws become almost and sometimes more important to us then our blood relations. I lost a brother in law ten years or so ago and he was one of my favorite fmaily members who I trustd more then any of my own family. I never got over his sudden death but the up side is I was lucky to know and learn from him as you have from your MIL. Big hug.

Linda, there is no goodbye, only so long, until next time you meet. And you will.
For God knows both your hearts.

I often have wondered where all your sweetness comes from.
You dropped a hint here.
The love never dies.
Do we really have to say goodbye?

soemthing it seems no one really knows how to do...say goodbye.
