Poem Artwork

I'm not afraid of bugs
Or anything that crawls
I'm not afraid of noises
Or bogeymen in the halls
I'm strong for my age
I can climb the highest tree
The only thing I fear
Is when the giant comes for me...

He looms in the doorway
Such hate in his eyes
Towering high above me
He never hears my cries
I am so very small
Under his powerful hand
I can't defend myself
From this giant of a man

I'm not afraid of ghost
Or the man in the moon
I'm not afraid of bears
Or a scary cartoon
I'm not afraid of spiders
Or the big bumble bee
The only thing I fear
Is when the giant comes for me...

I'm not afraid of bullies
That taunt me in the park
I'm not afraid of shadows
That linger in the dark
I'm not afraid of monsters
Or things I cannot see
The only thing I fear
Is when the giant comes for me...

Sad but powerful pen. It truly casts light on the fears of those in need of love.

A powerful write my friend, your imagery is great...I felt chills climbing my spine as I read your well written words on such a sad, sad, topic. Too often small children are scared of the very ones that are supposed to be protecting and loving them due to pain that has been inflicted on them! Sad world when grown adults take their anger, hurt, and stupidity out on a small weak child! Angers me! I see it all too often, bruises and swollen lips or a child full of rage and anger because that it all they've seen, or even those that are withdrawn and afraid to speak or have nothing left to say because they are so beaten down by so called adults! This kind of topic makes me want to come out swinging, gets me fired up!
Great write my friend!
Blessings,
Joyce Bowling

the presence of this giant is indeed overwhelming but not undebatable ... overcoming fear results in power ... power to learn to control all aspects of one's life by overcoming emotional addiction ...

excellent poem, Linda ...

Wow this is just splendid. When we write exactly the way we want and how we exactly feel then we all can relate or feel it. it is always an indeed pleasure to read your poetry especially ones with so much meaning and easy to understand. Keep writing and nevaer stop. Love Aleja Bennett.

This one is shattering. Powerfully penned, it evokes the deep nightmare of betrayal. Perhaps in expressing this, some of the fear will go away...well done, Linda, continue to speak out for the innocents.

(((HUGS))) and love, karla.

Even when I was 38 years of age when the giant in my life had been reduced to a frail shadow of his former self, I still feared him enough to duck and hide. On reflection, his death came as a relief for both of us.

I could empathise in part with the theme of this poem.

It is sad to be able to see the terrrible crime of abuse as it is witnessed by a child but in this write we get a small glimpse into that horror and it brings tears to the eyes.
