This poem reminded me of a terrible hunting accident. A 10 yr. old boy shot his 7 yr. old brother while hunting with their Dad. The 7 yr. old didn't make it. God bless the little ones.
The earth so hard and cold
As they lower her in the ground
As we watch the tiny coffin
No one makes a sound
Is it guilt that we feel
As we slowly bow our head
That we didn't help this child
We turned our backs instead
Lord, accept this little one
As she comes into your fold
If she seems afraid, dear Lord
Give her Your hand to hold
May the angels gather 'round her
Gentle voices softly cry
As their harmony from Heaven
Sings and angels lullabye...
We passed her house many times
The shadows echoed her pain
Not willing to get involved

Beaten by her father

Linda, this is a lovely--beautiful poem. Although you talk of a "Little one" here, The same holds true for older abused children. I spent my life as an educator. There were times when children came into my classroom too terrified to return home in the evening.
You've written a truthful poem that by its nature is redemptive to the reader! I treasure your narrative style Linda and believe it will be used of God in broken lives to bring healing and repentance. At the Bemma seat of Christ, every word we've spoken shall be judged...these words are golden!
How very, very sad but extremly well written. I would love to be there when St. Peter slams The Pearly Gates in her father's face. "Entrance is not granted to the likes of you!" is what he'll probably say. Don't bleme youselves. Remember, "Thy Will Be Done."

The tragedy of child death is so grievious that it is hard to even consider. As the father of three, the grandfather of four, and the Santa to hundreds that find their way to my knee at the mall each day it breaks my heart to read this write.
