My precious Granddaughter is 13
How fast the years go by
No Barbie dolls, or scattered toys
No boo boo's to make her cry
She's embarking on a new life
More grown up she will be
No matter how fast she grows
She'll be a child to me

+++++++++++++++++

Her blue eyes always innocent
To the horrors of this world
If only I could protect her
This precious little girl
I know there'll be laughter
Also tears along the way
Since I can't always hold her hand
Walk with her,  Lord I pray

++++++++++++++++++

From teenage years to adult
Such a long way to go
Let her stop and smell the flowers
Teach her all she needs to know
May she keep her focus on You
Through all the years of her life
May she find joy being a Mother
And happiness being a wife

++++++++++++++++++

I know there'll be laughter
Also tears along the way
Since I can't always hold her hand
Walk with her,  Lord I pray

(C) Linda Hill

Secretly she'll still be playing with those dolls.
Indeed, may she enjoy the innocence and joys of childhood!

Alovely tribute to your grand child as the grandfather of four, my oldest is seven and I already see her slipping into her own mind and character it is scary but also so wonderful to watch and be a part of.

I have 3 grand daughters ages 11 to 17. They bring a lot of sunshine into an old mans life. The oldest is an only child and just lost her daddy (my son). "... also tears along the way...."

Nice write, I'll share this with her.

Thanks Dick

Yes, yes, yes
I can identify.
Mine just turned 18 and she has suddenly
become a woman.
No longer the child,
but now an adult.
A new kind of fun.
I like it.

No matter how old they get, it seems like it's the child we never let go of. Endearing pen!
