Jimmy took a bullet to the head one day;

drug deal went south and turned into a gun fight. 

Now he walks with a limp

and his speech ain’t right,

and his mama can’t do but cry.

“God works in mysterious ways,” the preacher man said. 

“He’ll challenge us for sure,

but He never gives us a burden too heavy to carry.”

Mama knows that when she’s gone,

Jimmy’s gonna have to take care of himself. 

So every night she lights a candle

and asks Jesus to take the wheel. 

But nothing ever changes,

and sometimes Mama wonders if those mysterious ways

will ever be of benefit to her.
