Gordy the gourd sat alone at the fair,
Not much for a gourd to do!
All decked out in his gourdish best
With bumps and lumps in wild hues!
The bright orange pumpkins snickered at him
Poking fun at his knobs and lumps.
“Who’d want to look at a warty old gourd
When we’re so smooth and plump!
There was nothing much poor Gordy could do,
He was lumpy and bumpy all right!
But Gordy liked the way he looked,
He was a most unusual sight!
Hundreds of people came to the fair
To check out the harvest of fall!
Milling around the bins of goods
There was something for one and all!
The pumpkins bin was busy indeed
But the gourds no one bothered about.
And Gordy thought that all was lost
He’d be there til they threw him out!
But a tiny boy with hair of gold
And sparkling eyes of bright blue
Wandered by the bin of gourds
And Gordy’s dreams came true !
The boy thought Gordy’s bumps were neat
And he wanted to take him home!
Now Gordy sits on a chair on the porch
Like a king upon this throne!

A young lad picked him from the rest,
Gordy smiled knowing he was blessed.
