AN OBVIOUS ANSWER
Where is the end?
I’ve found my place,
But this future is so open
It is almost beyond my release.
Where is the end?
I have journeyed thus far,
My worries unprovoked,
My heart in constant spar.
Where is the end?
Over mountains, cliff edges, clouds and skies,
I have worn my tired feet
Never lost, but never in sync with the tides.
Where is the end?
All may hear my sobs,
For so lost I scream it out over and over,
Feeling that I may never be found.
Where is the end?
Damn all the pride!
WHERE IS THE END?
Is it somewhere, withered and lost inside?
Is it somewhere, blackness etched, passive and horrid?
Is it somewhere within my own heart, blanketed in cold?
But that cannot be the end,
I can’t allow that for the sake of my soul.
So I question the skies again:
“WHERE IS THE END?
Here I stand!”
My arms spread open,
Invitation a resolve,
Upon my heart, a brand.
And then—suddenly—
A hawk of destined greatness,
Finally lands,
And with wise hunter’s eyes,
Looks at the place just under my chest’s skin…
And with a voice of ancients,
With a wiseness of old,
The hawk lets my heart’s confusion rest,
As I let my passions go…
“Here, my child…”
He says as he gazes at my tortured heart,
My blind and lying friend…
“Here, my child.
Here is the end.”
“But I knew that already!”
I achingly cried,
“I’d known it all along!”
The hawk merely flew back to the sky,
And left me with my sobs.
“Then why fight instinct, child?
If you knew all along,
Why waste a journey,
To understand that which you had already found?”
