Tis the day of the battle
The warriors are gathering
In the keep of the castle
Waiting for their laird to come
Impatiently the horses stamp
Excitement in the air
Walking down the tower stairs
Comes the maiden fair
Around the men she walks
Sunrise as she speaks
” A shield of mist I put on you
from heather and mountain
from sea and stone
from man and maiden
till ye return to us
No blade shall cut ye
No arrow shall strike ye
No fire shall burn ye
Shield of angels around you
May ye come back to us
As you go out from here”.
The Scottish maiden walks around
The men as she softly speaks these words.
The knights and men at arms,
Their heads they all bow down
Tis a special protection she chants
To protect these gallant warriors from harm
For far from home they will roam
They will need her protection
Till they all come back home
