The Faded Letters
.
Stored in my closet among my secret treasures
I found a bunch of faded letters
Tied with a ribbon of blue
I smiled as I carefully opened one

Memories of when we were young
Innocent and learning about love
Uneasy about feelings we didn’t know of
Nervous and uncertain…afraid to say I love you
Afraid that maybe you didn’t love me too
.
We wrote letters and mailed them to each other
Promises to love and care for no other
Ahhh those years…so sweet and tender
They make my eyes water
So much has passed under our bridges
As we wandered through life together
.
Children grew up and moved out
Our love is still strong
All these many years…you and I are still one
Faded letters…I sigh as I smile at them now
Thinking back to yesterday…tomorrow and now
