Gguardian of the sea

 The Lighthouse

.
Look at me all sailors of the sea
I will guide you in safe to your family
With my revolving shining light
The sea will become safer and bright
.
The waters twist and turn in the wind
 Roaring and crashing into the shore
Winds pick up and whistle a harsh tune
Through the night air as if to say
“Sailors, beware!”
.
Clouds rush in to darken the day
Making it seem like the sun went away
People turn around in frenzied fear
Knowing that soon the storm will be here
.
Harkin, all sailors of the seas
Always look for guidance 
From such as me
For we are made to help mankind
We have been here a very long time

The lighthouse has often served as a metaphor for guidance, protection, and a safe haven. Unfortunately, modern navigation has proven to be much better than what lighthouses offer and they are gradually slipping away from sight. When all lighthouses are gone, much poetic experience will be lost.

It is sad that (around here anyway) they are doing away with lighthouses. I find the lighthouse in your poem to be symbolic of a lot more as well. Thank you for sharing Kathleen. Love and best wishes to you,
