The Magic Bonnet

I found an Easter Bonnet

In my attic in a trunk

It was hiding in a corner

Beneath clothes and other junk

This had me quite befuddled

Because it wasn’t there before

The attic had been empty

Now there are hats and clothes galore

I placed the bonnet on my head

And much to my surprise

A mirror appeared upon the wall

Right before my very eyes

The wrinkled face was not my own

But she resembled me a bit

I grabbed a dress and slipped it on

Wow! It was a perfect fit

I grabbed some shoes and put them on

They laced up to my knees

Then suddenly upon a chair

She sat pretty as you please

I grabbed another Easter Dress

It was much smaller than the last

Again it fit me to a “T”

As another spell was cast

My cherub cheeks were rosy red

And my eyes a sparking blue

I placed a bonnet on my head

Buckled up my second shoe

Suddenly the babe did stand

Beside the lady I’d first been

I grabbed another pretty dress

To watch the show begin again

The last dress that was in the trunk

Was a pretty lacy pink

Again it fit me perfectly

I gave a cute approving wink

I grabbed the one last bonnet

It had feathers beads and lace

I tied the bow beneath my chin

And pulled the net across my face

The final pair of shoes I grabbed

Were made of sequined leather

They had a pretty open toe

Made for sunny springtime weather

As the lady moved to join the rest

My own image did appear

A camera was in front of me

And a lantern to my rear

I quickly took a picture

Then a couple more to spare

As I stepped back from the camera

My attic once again was bare

No dresses, shoes or bonnets

No ladies, trunk or chairs

Feeling rather dizzy

I headed for the stairs

And where that dusty trunk once stood

Was a picture framed in gold

It was the one that I’d just taken

But it looked so very old

I took it to my mother

And her eyes welled up with tears

The photo of her Great Grandma

Grams and Mother at two years

All our pictures lost in a flood

 Sixty years ago today

And now this photo has come back to us

On this special Easter Day

Sherry, I've been out of touch for a while now, but as I read this, I felt a sense of 'been there', and I enjoyed that nostalgic sensation.
This was simply one of those writes where one wants to just keep going on forever and ever. Magic..yes that is what it was. Magically wonderful!
Hope your Spring floods you with new growth!

I just can't resist that bonnet... just HAVE to put it on, I can understand why you found it so inviting... just like this write, which is as much for the "big" kids as it might be for the little-eys it seems to me. Enchanting, Sherry and so warm and life-affirming. Seems very real as much as a daydream or paranormal experience. Just delightful... funnily enough, my engagement ring had been lost for a few days recently and just miraculously "turned up" later, in a place that had been walked over many times in the intervening period... nothing stranger than the truth sometimes! Bless you and thank you for this... got to try that hat!! :)) LOL Kate xx

Awwwwww Sherry, this is so beautiful. It made me cry to know, that one picture survived its toll, of all the years, that cmae to rest in your mother's tears. Sherry, this is a fine write of a ressurection of love, of rememberance, and of beauty. Thnx for sharing Sherry. May the Lord bless you, and be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love in my heart, joy to the world, peace on earth, (((((HUGGSS))))), and a very Happy Easter, cause He is risen, Barbie
