Long Strange Trip

Brushing dust from our hands

Like we’ve been thrown from our steed

We find, though we’ve lost

We still have what we need

It’s been one hellava year

Of that there’s no doubt

But somehow we found strength

To eke it all out

Nature did rage

As she tossed us around

Flattening cities

And destroying our towns

After mighty earthquakes

So many lost lives

Yet from beneath tons of rubble

A baby survives

Fires and floods

Droughts, melting ice

Subways bombed

Seems man’s paying the price

For his greed and destruction

The payment’s come due

Mother Nature’s collecting

And she’s prob’ly not through

It seems it’s by grace

That we’re each still alive

But is it the luck of the draw

Or by choice, we survive

The more that I see

I clearly understand

The fate of this world

Has been placed in man’s hand

There’s a Master Plan

What it is, we don’t know

But it seems what we reap

Equals that which we sow

WTG SIS!!! This is so very true, it scares me. Carolyn said it well too. Mother Nature is just getting started. I'm lucky here in the upper midwest tho, because we don't have to deal with hurricanes, earthquakes or flooding that causes us to leave our homes. But Mother Nature IS just getting started tho.

Thnx for sharing sis.

May the Lord Jesus bless you, and those whom you love, and be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love in my heart, joy to the world, peace on earth, & ((((((((((MANY WONDERFUL SISTERLY HUGGGGSSSS)))))))))), your little sister, Barbie

Sowing and reaping is one of the fundamental laws of the universe that can't be overthrown, I think. What goes around comes around... for every force or action there is - at one time, place or out in space - an equal and opposite reaction. Love this poem, Sherry... and the visual about being tossed from the horse is a brilliant image to kick it off, so to speak! Yep, life is fragile but for the main part we tread it underfoot with heavy lead boots in our "just want it/do it" mentality. We think we are unaffected, invincible but we are intimately interconnected in ways that are invisible until they strike too close to home. Love this quote from Richard Price from his poem: "In your generous hours" -

"allow to exist
the ledge, as a place of
flowers...

oh, you better relax,
you're attached to the
univers
by the tenderest of
chances:
make allowances."

Wonderful insight and messages here! TY LOL Kate xx

Is there a way we can know how much mother nature is asking? We shall pay all dues at once to let those who come behind us live in peace and harmony with nature. Wonderful poem. Thanks Sherry

Don't believe in a master plan or intelligent design. All the horrendous calamities from the past didn't erase us and neither will these. It has been one hellava year and your last stanza sums it up quite nicely.

Happy New Year!

I have to agree completely with the sentiments expressed in these verses, Sherry. And I believed them long ago. Thank you. Happy New Year to you with love and peace,

I've been avoiding "the year in review pieces" in both poetry and news because 2005 was a loveless bitch of a year as disasters and strife goes. You've said a mouthful here, Sherry. Let's work to pull ourselves together and look toward the hills from whence cometh our help. People keep saying we'll do it on our own. I say will have to do it with God. What makes man think he's going to get it better now? Hasn't humanity seen by now that its man-is-god instead of man-with-god solutions tend to create more problems? What an arrogant lot we are!

There is a master plan, and it will be fulfilled by hook or by crook
We should be prepared for more upheavals , and wars and rumors of war, before all becomes clear Sherry !
We must remain resolute and strong in the Lord whilst it all unfolds !

It truly has been One Hellava Year, and we truly do reap what we sow. And I also truly hope that we've all learned some valuable lessons in 2005 about our responsibilities on this planet, and that Mother Nature can forgive us and calm down in 2006.

Hope Your New Year is a marvelous one, Sherry.

Sherry,
You know, it was really hard as I sat and pondered 2005, trying to reflect on it as a whole, to not fall to it's raging temper. Then after I wrote it, then I struggled with whether or not to post it. But then, it was in all honesty, our year of 2005, even/if it was or was not, the year of Hallmark beauty, we lived it and we now can remember it for what it was to us on a personal level. For me, it was the faces. The ones in every disaster that we met. The faces that cried, and grieved, the sorrowful and frightened and the lost. When I saw them, even if it was through a camera lens either focused or one in the background, their faces told the truth of the severity of pain they were dealing with. And then...then would come the faces of the children. Even if they weren't happy at the moment, you could still see hope in their eyes. They shared a conviction of innocence and light through all the immediate hardships. They were armour tough. They showed and proved to the rest of the world, that one only had to reach for the inner child to make it through. Up until then, I doubted strongly the future of our world being handled by our children, but now...Now I'm completely convinced we will be just fine.
At midnight I embraced 2006, with an open heart and mind, and I said goodbye to the old and weary 2005. It was nothing less than than a very trying year for all, but it sure got and held our attention.
Happy New Year Sherry....I'm looking forward to many more!

A strong truthful message! Perhaps we're reaping what we've sewn! It's too bad that many innocents have to also pay the price for the continuing violations of the guilty who rape and disrespect our planet and wantonly kill its animal and human species. Will we ever learn? I dare hope and pray for a much better tomorrow! Happy new year, Sherry!
