The tooth must come out.
There’s no hope for it
at my age.
My dentist rumbles on:
Periodontics,
Endodontics,
Alphabets of pain,
Ledgers of loss.
And in the background,
The low hum,
counterpoint and rhythm.
Around the corner ---
Death waits.
At my age,
There’s no hope for it.
Only resignation.
