'Father came to her rescue – saw a ghostly image . . . '

Poem Artwork

Went on an outing – Victorian times

Family picnic in the month of June

Daughter got too close to the water

Slipped in; body was never recovered.

Mother’s life also ended – now motionless

As motionless as her deceased child

Tear ducts dried up after six months

Would not enter her daughter’s room.

One December morn – water on bedroom floor

Was not from any source found in the home

Had melting ice and pond grass attached to it

The mother screamed and quickly fainted.

Father came to her rescue – saw a ghostly image

Reached out and felt his daughter’s tears

Disappeared as her mother came back to life

Twin brother felt all that was going on.

Then it began – “Mommy, you didn’t watch me”

“I called, but you didn’t come to play a game”

All coming from the daughter’s room same time

The mother still to distraught to go and enter.

Everyday – the grandfather clock chimed 2:00 pm

Was at that time the daughter ‘s life was taken away

The mother stood there at the bottom of the stairs

Everyday her daughter’s ball came bouncing down.

Disturbed the mother greatly – would go outside

Hid the ball in a different place to no prevail

Then decided to burn it and remove it from existence

Following day the same ball came ‘stepping’ down.

Got up the courage – went to see her daughter

Walked into the bedroom and held her tight

Both cried as their love was rekindled

Her daughter’s soul could finally leave this world.

All children want is love. It makes their lives go around. Spooky and glad mom finally reunited her love with her daughter. Liz

An eerie tale, yet one that is also bittersweet. No parent really ever wants to let go of their children and this one really grabs the heart...

Be always safe,
Karen

You've captured the agony of losing a child so well Lance. I know. There are three burial plots with my children's names on them. Two as infants and one in the prime of her life. I feel all three of them around me every minute of every day.

Aaawwwww!!! What a beautiful and sad poem/story!!! I think the little girl was just waiting for her mommy to show up and I'm so glad the mommy finally plucked up her courage to see that her little girl is comforted. Satisfied, the little girl was now released from the waiting period and went on her heavenly journey.

It is said that when ghosts and spirits appear it is always the fact that they have a message to convey to the living; and when we see a ghost or spirit we should not be so frightened for they have a message for us.

A well written piece!!!
