Will You Listen?

When the world is too loud,
Violent and bitter,
I come here where it is quiet,
And so surreal…

The view will take your breath away,
Soft beauty surrounds you,
The giant boulders speak slowly,
About their heavy dreams,

The clouds listen politely,
Sharing the images they see,
I watch the sky change colors slowly,
Deepening to sunset hues,

The wind whispers softly,
Telling you the story of life,
Showing you what really matters,
As you walk upon the earth…

My heart begins to beat more slowly,
And peace descends like a stone,
Pervading my spirit with peace,
And I realize I am not alone…

You have followed me here,
With quiet footsteps,
Standing behind me,
With your hands on your hips…

My love of solitude frightens you,
But I am not afraid,
I want to teach you the beauty of silence,
If you will learn;

The world speaks here,
Of many things we have forgotten,
How to hear…

Listen my love,
With your heart,
Let this place fill,
Your wild and passionate spirit,
With peace and love,

Words are not necessary here,
Use your eyes and heart,
Try to understand why I need to come here,
This is where I belong…

This place of quiet beauty,
Soothes my worn soul,
Quiets my grief filled thoughts,
With the knowledge that we are,
Such a small part of the universe,

Nothing we possess is as important,
As we think,
In time the wind shall erase our footsteps,
And we will cease to exist…

Yet the sun shall still rise,
The flowers will bloom,
The birds sing-
And my life will have no meaning…

My name is etched upon this massive rock,
For those who will come one day,
And sit where I am now,
Perhaps they will trace its letters,
And mouth the word I carved there…

And the wind will carry the sound to the clouds,
And if they look there,
They will see the image of me,
Floating above them,

The mountain will remember who I was,
And tell my story to them,
If they have learned,
What I am trying to teach you…

To listen with your heart,
To see beauty with your soul,
To feel life beat softly all around you,
And fill you with such peace…

Won’t you sit here awhile with me,
And listen?

You summarize elegantly and eloquently conversation with nature - being with the universe, listening to the universe and appreciating its greatness and wonders. Thanks for this gift. Most people have only one thought: how to convert the world into money. Poems like this one are like medicine. Franz

Beautiful picture and poem. It takes me back in time when the woods was a special place for reflecting and dreaming. There was so much peace and quiet there, only the sounds of water, the breeze blowing through the trees, and the sounds of animals scurrying about or singing.

"The giant boulders speak slowly,
About their heavy dreams,"

Let the rocks speak. And learn the beauty as you have shown here, of the silence.

blessin's in quietness,

Yes, i am saying this to my Andy all the time, that city of his never sleeps, literally, which is what I love about him, but I also love seeing the calm, peaceful side of him when I am laying with him and I get him to listen. I also feel this way on my walks with my mom, listening to all the nature alive around me, it is my favorite part of the day:) Really, really enjoyed this:)

Beautifully expressed, Retta. We sometimes forget to truly listen. I find it best to listen where only nature speaks. Love and peace. Regis

Ahh, simply beautiful. It seems that you have accepted the fundemental truth, that we are but a minor part of the world around us. Sometimes it is good to sit amid such majestic beauty to understand this.

You know, I took some shots of place almost exactly like this,
last year on vacation along the North Shore of Lake Superior.
Sure is conducive to wonderful poetry...like you've written

This reminds me of Corbin Creek in north Georgia where my family would go to fish for Rainbows and forget about the city life and the woes of man. Everyone needs a haven like this and silence allows everyone to hear the voice of Nature. This is a beautiful poem. Thanks.
