What are you looking for?

You said you were looking,
And my heart fell,
Seeing you shifting pages,
And looking for something,
We both know where that will end,
So you sit there looking,
And I sit here,
Thinking about leaving again…

You say wait,
Until you’ve found,
What you are looking for,
But where does that leave me?

Never figured out,
What I am waiting for,
Why should I stay?
When you’re going away…

What is it you need me for?
Insurance that you’ll never be alone?
Makes me wonder some,
About what I am thinking…

Why do I keep choosing,
The wrong person to love,
Why do I want,
What I can never have?

You keep looking,
I keep leaving,
And returning again and again,
Don’t know why,
Maybe I keep thinking,
You’ll stop looking,
And realize,
What you are seeking,
Is sitting here beside you,
Wishing I wouldn’t have to leave,
Again.

On and on, maybe not hopeless. This is a splendid write with feeling on both end of the spectrum of staying or going.

Oh my god, Retta, this is strangling, so quietly intense, wrapping itself around my mind like liquid pain... The poignancy fills the reader with such a want to reach out and help in some way.

Strong words, dear Retta. I am in a similar situation and haven't found an answer to this yet. I think we have to find our inner peace first, learn to love ourselves more than anybody else - before we can move on and see things in a different light.

Excellent write.
Stay well.

An eloquent, heart-wrending write that still leaves you breathless and anxiously awaiting... "Yes??!!" The heart is absolutely faithful to the object of it's love and never ceases to hope and yearn for fulfillment... it always believes in the possibility of the longed-for thing. The heart is a hopeless optimist - even when battered and bruised! You have painted beautifully the travesty of the funcitonal versus the emotional nature of relationships sometimes, and the sadness of feelings that remain unrequitted. Thank you. Kate xx

An exceptionally well-written write, leaning into the delicate subject of one never being completely satisfied with what they have sitting right next to them. They do say the grass is greener on the other side, yet, once you get there, all you have to do is look back and see just how green the grass was right there in front of you.

Why do I keep choosing,
The wrong person to love,
Why do I want,

(((o, retta)))

i felt the pain behind your words--powerful, heartbreaking write--i can identify soooo closely with this one, especially,

"...what is it you need me for?
insurance that you'll never be alone?
makes me wonder some
about what i am thinking...

why do i keep choosing
the wrong person to love
why do i want
what i can never have?..." *tears tears tears*

i felt this to the depths of my soul--thank you

(((HUGS))) and love, karla. :(
