It was a cold and misty morning,
And the fog covered the world like a veil-
Yet,
Even the frozen dew on the golden daises,
Reminded me of him...
And I fell,
Under the Shadow of his Love...
My heart lurched and thumped wildly in my chest...
And my spirit felt so weak,
That I sat down on the damp, cool hillside,
And listened,
As the past replayed before my weeping eyes...
He had offered me his hand,
And though I trembled with love,
I could not accept his gentle touch-
For the pureness of his soul,
Burned me like fire...
When he looked at me,
His eyes were so filled with sadness
That I was forced to look away...
And in my heart,
I heard him asking why-
But I couldn't get a whisper,
Past the knot in my throat...
My soul screamed in agony,
For how could I have brought
This golden man to his knees before me-
And weeping,
I tried to explain...
His world was full of life and hope,
He was surrounded by beauty and golden-red sunsets-
How could I let my dark thoughts mar his world?
My death-filled existence would bring
Hate and mistrust to his life.
My soul,
Black as night,
Would stain his golden shield...
And if I were to change one ion of his being,
He would cease to be all that I loved and cherished...
I would destroy him with my love,
And although my life,
Would be nothing without him-
I could not blacken his life with my touch...
Thus he wept,
And my heart shed blood upon his soul.
My eyes were blinded by grief-
And my soul tortured by his pain,
For he had offered me his world,
And I could not accept...
Nor could I bring myself
To allow him to enter
The dark caverns of my despair...
Thus despite his pleas we parted.
Both shattered,
Both destroyed forever by our inability
To merge our worlds...
Now I weep in my nightmares,
And he weeps in his dreams-
I know I will never forget him,
My golden love,
And forever more,
I find myself still haunted by the
Shadow of his Love...
