Listening To Others...

It wasn't enough,
Our own words were cruel,
Though it wasn't what I sought to do,
The last thing I wanted was to hurt you...
It was time to leave,
I couldn't believe,
In what you wanted for me,
Somehow, I just couldn't see,
The forest for the trees...

I walked away,
Yeah I did,
But you said it would be okay,
Made me a promise that I wouldn't have to stay,
If either of us wanted it that way...

I know it hurt you,
But it hurt me too,
It was something I felt,
I had to do.

So then they come,
These whispers of doubt,
Yelling, and beginning to shout,
That you were wrong,
Was not strong,

All a Lie!
Making me cry...
It was never my belief,
That you were wrong,
I only wanted to grant you relief,
From someone who was not as strong,
As they needed to be to let you in,
And grew tired of hurting a freind.

Stop listening to others!
You know in your heart a truth,
That will be revealed,
uncovered...

That you sought only to make me strong,
And d**n how much you were wronged!
But do not let them win,
It was never your sin,
But rather mine,
That I betrayed someone so kind...

Someone who was ever a friend,
Someone I could not let in,
Lest they break my heart,
Tear it apart,
Leave it laying in the sun,
As once was done,

And I swore so many years ago,
I would never again know,
The pain of that sorrow,
How could I know that one day,
You would be in my tomorrow?

One day extend a hand,
To the man,
Who showed me the path to the light,
The man I left walking blindly in the night...

I never should have came,
I should have remembered my name,
Like he said,
I was better off dead-

Then talking you along on that journey,
And leave your world burning,
In the wake of my path,
And feel the fierce pain of your wrath,
As I walked out that door,
Never to return anymore.
