The Storm Children

The rain falling like tiny shadows Draws them out of their lair… Where they hid, Crouching in fear from the light of day. The dark clouds move in, And the scent of rain fills the air, Electricity crackles in the night And the storm children run out Into the falling mist… Letting the gentle rain Wash the pain from their souls… Look! They remember how to play… Acting like children once again… Splashing in the puddles... Holding their faces open to the sky Trying to drink in the tears of God… I watch the young pale one Creep out like a timid deer. Sniffing the air... To see if it is clear… Holding her hand out To catch the falling dew And the first smile I’ve seen Makes her a beautiful view… Now I watch as she steps into the air… Surrounded by the grayness of the ending day… Falling around her shoulders like a veil, And she begins her dance Swaying her hips…. Holding up her arms to the sky like a gift... And she turns and spins Dancing gracefully through the night… One by one the children join her... And she teaches them the steps to her ancient dance... Giving thanks to the Storm God… Paying her respect…. And the children join hands as she becomes a blur The tears of happiness flowing down their cheeks Blending in the rain Pooling at their feet… Louder it thunders, And brighter the lightning flashes in the sky And faster she dances keeping pace with the storm… And the children like angels without wings Flying in a circle, keeping her in... The Storm Rages… The Children Dance as The Storm Princess tells her story, Performing a ritual few have ever seen. She is so beautiful in the lightning filled sky… I sit on the roof And watch it all… Letting the rain wash me clean Letting the storm soothe my soul… Letting the Storm Children take me Home….
