That Damn Moon

I saw the moon tonight, So bright she was, As though she sensed my need… And I thought of you, My golden haired friend, And how long it has been Since I held your soft hand in mine… Too long I fear, For I have forgotten Some of the things you taught, And now I struggle to survive Without you to guide me… I know you said You would always be there, But you seem so far away, And tomorrow seems so much more Than a single day… I need you now my love, I need you now… The night is dark, But the moon shines on that path, And it seems so right for me to follow, I can almost see you, Standing at its end. I fell in love with you, With the beauty of your eyes, Though you warned me, That beauty is often deceiving… Ha! What a lesson that was! I feel the scar it left me, Still raised like a welt on my heart… The day we came apart… Looking back, It all seems so surreal, The pain and heartache That will never heal. I sought to hide from you then, But I will never again… Watched so sadly as love Slipped through my fingers, Pouring itself out on the ground… I wander in my forest, And it is mine to wander in, I wish it would lead me, Where I want to go… The moon, That damn bloody moon, Has hid her lovely face Behind the cloud again… The night so velvety black… The stars like diamonds in the back drop… If I fall, If I leap towards that dark abyss… Are you waiting for me? Are you standing there still? Will you really catch me dear? Or will I slip through your fingers too?

My goddness, that last stanza rips your heart out! And the lead-in to it - "The stars like diamonds in the back drop…" could not be better...wonderful.
