I draw you in,
To keep you out...
Put on my "happy face"
The one with the smile,
You like so much-
Wear the clothes,
You bought for me...
Watch me dance for you...
Did I remember the steps?
And now the performance is over...

You clap your hands,
And smile with your eyes,
I have please you so well,
With this dance in hell...

I turn and walk away,
trembling so bad,
I cannot stay,
Run to my room,
And close the door,
Draw my blinds,
Cover my head,
Am drawn into a blackness so deep,
You can't see me weep.
I lay curled in a tight ball,
Ears closed to your every call,
My hands clenched into fists-
I can pretend you don't exist...

I live in another world here-
One without tears.
Dark, warm, silent.
So non-violent...
Where I have nothing left
For you to steal.
So quiet here,
I like its appeal-

So black,
There is nothing to fear.
Don't know why you keep knocking,
There's nobody here...

Retta,
This is haunting in the darkness of verse.
"So black,
There is nothing to fear.
Don't know why you keep knocking,
There's nobody here..."
Done in excellence.
