The Reality Of Friendship

We started out unsure,
You reaching out,
Me holding my hands
Behind my back,
Lips pinned tight with needles,
Against the words I wanted to say,
(Ah, but he has that sweet mouth)
You know how it is…
One of THEM guys-
Ask him something,
Anything will do-
And he’ll tell you half-truths,
Make you feel like a fool…

Tries to convince you,
He’s telling the truth…
That technically speaking,
It wasn’t a lie,
He’ll say while looking,
Right into your eyes…

Then it all starts to fall apart,
And you can only watch your heart,
Crack and bleed under the strain,
All the while his words echo in your brain…

You got a mean streak baby,
Narrow and fine,
You just don’t seem to know,
Where to draw the line,
Using that sharp tongue,
To cut me to shreds…
And my friend whispers softly;
“Hope ya didn’t hurt her too bad…”
(Cut her, burned her)
Ah but ya did boy,
Should’ve stayed and watched
How much it bled…

“She is way too sensitive”
(Left her lying on the sacrificial stone…)
“You seem much more aggressive than she”
(I ripped out her heart and stomped on it)
“Are you kidding? Is that sarcasm?”
(I mean what I say and say what I mean)

I walked away,
Just couldn’t stay,
Hearing the words you always say,
Telling me I crashed your dream,
Sent it hurling to the ground,
Had to cover my ears
I couldn’t bear the sound,
Your soul made as it realized,
You could never give her the prize,
This thing you valued above all,
Above winning,
Above being right,
Above the truth you could not see…

I heard the pain in every word you said,
Saw the tears you tried not to shed,
Wishing I was dead rather than see you weep,
Dreams turning into nightmares,
When I could finally sleep…

But it was too hard to hear those words of pain,
Your quick anger driving us both insane,
You for what you lost,
And I for what it cost,
Me to know your secret,
(You were right)
It wasn’t worth it!

The reality of friendship,
safe as long as I don't slip,
Say something you can't rip,
Tear its meaning to shreds,
Until our friendship lies dead,
Friends to the end-
Just another lie,
Couldn't even look back,
When we said Good-bye...

I understand these feelings.. Hard cold facts of love not always what is should be.

Great great write..Tour friend
