In My Sister's Shadow

The darkness calling me tonight,
And I see it so clearly,
My sister’s shadow,
Standing right over there…
Waving her hand to me,
Smiling,
Her lovely hair falling so gently,
Faming her beautiful face…

Her lovely blue flowers,
Still in her hair…
I put them there,
When we laid her to rest,
And watered them with my tears,
At the sight of her death…

She comes now and again,
Whispering the secrets she tells,
Of silent and sweet solace,
She has found in the glen…
And I take her hand,
Let her lead me to our secret place,
Where we hug,
And whisper our secrets
In a long embrace…

I can’t let go!
I am afraid she will leave again,
Can’t stay here alone,
With my heart of stone!
Ah walk with me,
To the edge of my world,
Hold my hand,
As I step off into that deep abyss,
Not like I will be missed!

I loved her so,
I feel so strong that I need to go,
Feel no bonds to make me stay,
Just want to get away!
God, how I miss her,
Need her to smile,
See in her eyes,
Absolution,
For not being there,
Not letting her know how much I care!
What is this thing that calls me to her side?
This feeling of love that I must hide…

Ah, such agony,
Such pain,
Driving me insane…
Walk with me sister,
Let me know,
Let me be your shadow
Once more,
And we can close this hated door
To lies, to deceit, life…

Wait for me dear one,
Let me draw my knife,
Ease this pain I feel so keenly,
Draw me into your world again,
You were ever my best friend,
Ever the one I loved the most-
Let me be your ghost,
As it was before,
Let it be once more…

I am destined to be your shadow,
Both in this world,
And in that dark and lovely meadow,
Where you lay in peace,
Let us lie together in eternal sleep,
Forever sisters and something more,
It is all I have been waiting for…

To be with you again,
Let this hated life end,
Here and now,
Leave this life most foul,
And see your beautiful smile,
When I step off and fly,
And finally be back at your side…

Hi Reindeer,
This issuch a beautiful heartfelt
tribute to your sister's memory...

However, I have to disagree with Tony...
Death is not final,
It's the bridge that
takes us from here
to God's mansion...
The soul never dies..
This is my belife...

To lose a loved one is indeed a torture to the soul. The loved one would want you to live. Great write!

You poured out your heart Retta. An excellent exposure to your longing and agony for her. But she is really not gone.
She will live inside your heart and memory always, and you in hers. Bill

Retta, very endearing write. The pain and the shadows never disappear. They remain in our hearts forever. Peace is the joy of remembrance.

Excellent, just the opposite of my poem. I use to love my brother this way until I grew up and realized that it was wasted energy. Thanks for flipping the coin for me.

This reminds so much of my youngest sister Tricia and her unexpected death at 42. She was a flower in this garden and I will miss her everyday of my life here. Thank you for your kind words. They will touych me as if Tricia was reading this herself.

Love and harmony,
Susan

This so moved my heart...
Know this kind of grief, too and you
powerfully expressed it in your write.

It's hard not having your sister anymore
I know how you feel because I don't have
my Dad, nor my two brothers anymore

Retta, this is a haunting poem. Time is so short for us humans. So short. We only get to live for the most 100 years out of the billions of time. Wait, you will be by her side. We get one life to live and it is up to each of us to live it and learn of it.

Reindeer,
So much pain and sorrow letting go is something that takes strength and finding them again in spirit is the gaining of that strength... This one is beautiful
