My Broken Heart

My heart so down today,
Trying to forget the words you say,
But my mind keeps playing them,
Like a broken record,
A shattered gem,
Sparkling on the floor,
Remembering walking out the door...

The thing is I can't remember why,
I felt the need to say good-bye,
Knowing only that I had to flee,
Somehow get free of the hold you had on me...

But I miss you,
Even though you were cruel,
And the lies!
How could you look in my eyes,
And tell me such lies?

You knew I could not trust,
That my heart would be so easy to bust-
Was it really all just a game to you?
So much fun to make me blue?

I am trying to forget you,
Trying not to remember so long ago,
Before you became just another foe,
I had to ward off with my sword,
Baby, You had me floored!

Sent me crashing to the ground,
And now the only sound,
I can hear is my lovely leaves,
The wind blowing softly in the morning breeze,

Whispering to me
That I was such a fool,
Trying to act so cool,
When all I wanted to do,
Was believe in you

Love those last line, isn't that the way it always is? Trust is hard for those who can't trust themselves to be honest.

Retta, we all have the same want to believe, but I guess it depends what we take from it that counts. An exceptionally profound write. Very insightful and excellent. ~Trish~ P.S. Hope it is not from your experience.

Oh boy, Retta, those last two verses sent chills through me. This a "heave and sigh" sorta write with so much realism and imagery

I hope it's fiction?
