So here in the dark I contemplate,
All that I have done,
Wondering where it all went so wrong,
Wishing I had been strong…
You decry my heart as being weak,
But it was the love you seek
That turned me away,
I was stronger in the early days,
Because I pushed you away…
It was trusting that made me feel,
You were actually real,
This true friendship that you sought,
The thing I always fought,
For I know friends are seldom true ,
Stay only as long as you
Tell them what they want you to-
Something I could not seem to do…
Why don’t you understand that
It was your love that made me weak,
The friendship I did not seek
That you pretended in the last weeks…
That drove me from your side,
Made me feel the need to hide,
Here in the shadows where I dwell,
Holding tight to the secrets I will never tell…
In the end I pushed you away,
Watching sadly as you left that day,
But knowing in my heart it is better this way,
Even true friends rarely stay…
Now my heart shall once more be strong,
For I know our friendship was wrong,
Just a joke, a game you played,
When you called to me by my true name…
Something I never should have revealed,
For it made you seem much too real,
And I should have realized even then,
It was just a matter of time before it had to end…
Now I push them all away,
Loving the silence of this dark day,
So much better to live this way,
Didn’t Robert Frost say it so well?
