You ask who I am,
And I wonder how to answer,
I have been trying to remember,
For quite some time now…
I am a child of the night,
Love to hide in the shadows,
Those who wish to see me,
Must have a strong light.
But I am wary,
And its brightness blinds me,
To the things they want me to see…
So I run away,
And hide behind my trees-
I live in a forest,
High among the mountains,
And it is my home,
From which I will never leave.
I use to run the trails,
And follow where they lead,
To the edge of the world,
A place few will ever see…
I hunt with the bow,
I listen to the wind,
I hear the chattering of leaves,
And many other things…
I see the eagles in my dreams,
The wolves I love,
Lay at my feet…
The creatures of my forest,
Do not frighten me.
I listen with my heart,
And hear the songs of the breeze,
The world with all its beauty,
Trapped in an eternal freeze…
I write words I dare not speak,
And if you can learn to read,
Between my lines,
You will discover,
The secrets that I keep.
Who am I?
I do not know,
I am still looking
For the creature that is me.
If you really want to know,
All you have to do,
Is the read the words
I dare to show…
And you may come to know,
Me.

you have the ability to draw from places within yourslef that many cannot touch with a true gift to be able to give them relevance to others. this poem is about you..but in a way about everyone...thats so cool lol
and we may never be altogether known, yes, oh!
Retta, again, your words tell me things, differing in bits, but, speak to me and tell me that I...well, thankfully, this work we do..is a way to discover at least some of what/who/why...and you reach deeply, beauty/pain/love/loss/fear...and again, you make stunning what is difficult to carry...
Thank you from my heart, gratefully I have read your work, your truly uniquely special words...what you DO SHARE...does provoke feeling and thoughtfulness and again, again, Thank ((((YOU)))

a very nice write...you have a gift of
expression.
Retta,
I must say this piece is so reminiscent of my underlying theme to my "Letters to Carla" it took my breath away, for indeed this was my cry! And indeed if I did write it in order to be known, of they who clamied my name in affection, would they read me even then? If my book like heart lay at their very feet? Alas, I knew the answer before I penned the tale! Yet the brokenness of this same discovery is what inspired the journey in part as well, sooo
I leave you in thanks, for crying my war cry of heart this day!

Reindeer, You write like a person I would love to know better. I can see clearly that you are both gifted and precious. A no-brainer that is. Thank you for sharing your poetry. I appreciate it. Blessings to you. Diane

There are lights that do not blind too, Retta. And there are gentle breeaze too that is so soothing.
Fearing and hiding in the darkness does not help.
MOst everyone can read between the line, only they will read it wrong.
You are a sweet Lady and has the supoort of many. Just come out in the open and you will know.
May God be with you
