Masks

This man I thought I knew,
Once said to me in spite;
"We all wear masks, my lady-
Only some of us wear them better than others..."
And I knew he was speaking to me,
Because my mask kept slipping,
Revealing little pieces of me...
And he would grab those pieces,
Tearing them to shreds,
Throwing them on the ground,
Where the wind would blow them away...

But each time this happened,
I adjusted and tightened the straps,
Until my face melded into this thing
That I wore without fail...

Then one day,
He reached for it,
Saying: "Geez baby,
Can't we stop playing these games?
I want to see the real you!"
And I couldn't think of a way to explain,
That my mask faces outward for a reason,
When I look in the mirror-
I don't see me either,
I only see what you want me too-
In other words;
I see you.

well I don't where a mask... I am who I am and do not believe to hide behind anything...for the simple reason that you must love me for who I am and not a fake...no offence to any one...but this who I am....saggy bum and all..and laughing lines that looks like a roadmap...

Retta,
As usual, you have put an excellent spin on a difficult subject. I think my ole' grandad said it best;
"So difficult it is to be us,
and see ourselves as others see us."
Jim :)
(he was a lot wiser'n me:)
